Lake Tahoe, California
1. Lake Tahoe is my favorite place to vacation during winter and summer. It is a popular travel destination for many people and not only people from California vacation there. There's snowboarding and skiing in the winter and water sports in the summer. It's only a couple hours away from Santa Rosa and has affordable lodges and hotels. My daughter just moved to Tahoe, I can't wait to visit her and take part in everything Tahoe has to offer this summer. Tahoe is a family tradition for many people in California. Its a place that everyone can find something they enjoy doing. From outdoor activities, camping, swimming, hiking or shopping at the local shops and going to spas.
2. My family and I take an annual camping trip to Tahoe. We love rent a camp site or a cabin for a week. Its a great place to take the family because it has something for all ages to enjoy. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in the United States. That makes it America's second-deepest lake. The lake is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides.
3.
Tahoe connects to my study of humanities in that it has a culture, history and people. Its a place that the visitors have created a majority of the culture. And the great climate and scenery have established a popular travel spot for many people. Tahoe is a large part of California and its culture.
5. classmates work: From Alissa Sillar’s assignment last week I learned about the de Young Museum in SF. I learned that the Museum is full of art from around the world, and on any given day there are visitors from around the world as well. This museum seems like has a very unique take on art and is a great connection to our study of humanities.

2b sf moma
Component B Choose:any museum
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SF MOMA):
http://www.sfmoma.org/
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is the world's most innovative museums of modern and contemporary art; SFMOMA has had an active Web presence for ten years. They offer a virtual museum experience right from your computer. There are many enhancements, visuals and information they offer on their site. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art connects to my studies of humanities because it offers a collection of artwork that involves culture, history, and people who directly correlates to humanities. Artwork and the artwork in museums is great tool to use when studying humanities.
a.)I choose the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art because it is one of my art museums in California that I have visited before. From visiting the museum in person and online it has opened my mind to numerous artists, styles of art, and new technique that artists are using today. Modern art is on of my favorite types of art because of its simplicity and clean lines. Still, there are a lot of original and creative pieces of modern art that I saw during my last visit to the museum. I have visited several museums of modern art around the United States and the SF MOMA was the first museums to truly display the artists and their works the best, and provide a great deal of informative and educational facts about each piece and its uniqueness.
b.)The SF MOMA features many exhibits and has had many special exhibits or certain holidays or events which is something that I enjoy visiting and exploring those. This is the first museum that I have visited that notifies you when a new c.)exhibit will be displayed for the public. Currently, there is a Frida Kahlo, Elise S. Haas, A Rooftop Garden, Matisse, and picturing modernity exhibits.
d.)I would like to know more about how the museum goes about choosing their exhibits. This assignment has made want to go back to the MONA and see how much it has changed since I was there last. And find more connections to my study of humanities while I am there. I feel that art is very important aspect of everyone’s lives. I think art inspires artists to make more art and those who are not artists to be more creative in their desired skill. Art makes you wonder why the artist used that color or texture and open your mind to new ideas and ways of creating an original piece of art work.
Classmates work from last week: I choose Samantha A Smith’s blog from last week, the place she choose was Monterey, California. I learned that Monterey’s culture is mainly composed art. I agree that their art and diversity in related to our study of humanities. I personally really enjoy visiting Monterey for their museums, aquarium, and outdoor sports.

week 2 component A
component A=pick any place
I choose Yosemite National Park because its a place that I enjoy visiting evert year with my family. The views are amazing and its a great place to explore and has great trials for hiking. Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within it’s nearly 1,200 square miles; there are deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and a lot more.
Yosemite National Park is located in the central Sierra Nevada of California and lies 150 miles east of San Francisco and only a six-hour drive from Los Angeles. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its spectacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, giant sequoia groves, and biological diversity. The 750,000-acre, 1,200 square-mile park contains thousands of lakes and ponds, 1600 miles of streams, 800 miles of hiking trails, and 350 miles of roads. Two federally designated wild and scenic rivers, the Merced and Tuolumne, begin within Yosemite’s borders and flow west into California's Central Valley. Annual park visitation exceeds 3.5 million, with most visitor use concentrated in the seven square mile area of Yosemite Valley.
Indian people have lived in the Yosemite region for as long as 8,000 years. By the mid-nineteenth century, when native residents had their first contact with non-Indian people, they were primarily of Southern Miwok ancestry. However, trade with the Mono Paiutes from the east side of the Sierra for pinyon pine nuts, obsidian, and other materials from the Mono Basin resulted in many unions between the two tribes. The native people of Yosemite developed a complex culture rich in tradition, religion, songs, and political affiliations. They used a variety of local ecosystems, they used plant and animal resources to the best of their abilities. The history and culture that yosemite national park has directly relates to my studies in humanities. From their traditions, spirituality, and discoveries, I believe that there is a strong connection between any place with a history and developed culture that can relate to the study of humanities.

humanities:assignment 1c
Assignment 1c
The first classmate who I learned a little about and submitted work for the first two assignments was Linda A Beavers. She is taking this class because it is online and works around her schedule. She leaves 8.4 miles from SRJC main campus, and she has not created blogs or web pages before this class.
From her assignment 1b on Paulo Freire I learned that Paulo more about his upbringing, where was born and studied. His method of teaching was that he wanted their to be dialogue between the student and teacher. Allowing the student and teacher to learn from each and be have open classroom participation. I also learned about Paulo’s idea that he presented called “Critical Conscientiousness” which involves recognizing the connection between the individual's problems and experiences and the social contexts in which they're imbedded. This is the first step in power and "know-how" to take action against oppression while stressing the importance of liberating education. I found this idea very interesting, I like how he wants to create an open communication between student and teacher. And creating awareness on the importance of education for everyone in every social class. This information relates to our studies of humanities by that education and Paulo’s ideas are still used today in humanities and is a very important aspect of humanities, culture, and our environment.
The second classmate that I learned something about was Rachael L Court. She is taking this class because she wants to learn more about human expression, better ways to express herself and the history of humanities. She lives 8.8 miles from the SRJC main campus and thinks of California as a Ego-Friendly place where everyone tries to keep California clean.
From Rachael’s assignment 1b on Paulo Freire I learned that he believed in “coscientization-developing consciousness, but consciousness that is understood to have the power to transform reality.” Freire's most famous book was, Pedogogy of the Oppressed. Paulo had a special intrest in teaching education to those who where suffering the most, the poor. He believed education was not about numbers and letters but about changing the world. He wanted to be granted the right to equal education no matter where they came from and their social status.

project 1b
Project 1b
Paulo Freire
youtube video 1: From watching the first video I found on Freire I learned about his views on education and his attempts to improve the educational system. His passion for education was clearly portrayed in this video. He wanted to change the students relationship with their teachers/instructors. Creating an educational environment where both teacher and students could learn from each other and have the ability to express their thoughts and views freely.
youtube video 2: From the second video that I watched on youtube I learned about Freire's past and struggle during the time of the depression. From his hardships during the depression it really showed him how he wanted to change the educational system for future students.

Intro
1. Scott
2. I want to learn more about different American cultures and at the same time it fulfills one of my degree requirements.
3. I live in Santa Rosa, about four miles from the SRJC campus
4. I think of the Pacific ocean and an environmentally friendly region of the country. I think that a lot of non-Californians think that California is somewhat environmentally friendly and that all people in California do is surf and get plastic surgery.
5. No.
